1. Program overview

Acumamas Wellness offers a TENS for Labour unit rental program for eligible patients of the Clinic. Each rental is for a period of six (6) weeks and includes one TENS unit, carry bag, lanyard, one set of fresh electrode pads, and an instruction sheet. The rental fee is $80.00 for the full 6-week period. A $100.00 refundable security deposit is also required before the equipment is released. Rental requests are subject to approval and equipment availability. Submission of a rental request form does not guarantee that a unit will be available on a particular date.

2. Eligibility and approval

This program is available only to existing Acumamas Wellness physiotherapy patients. Completion of an initial prenatal physiotherapy consultation with an Acumamas physiotherapist is mandatory before any TENS unit will be released. That consultation includes instruction on appropriate home use of the device

A rental may be refused, delayed, or cancelled by the Clinic if:

  • eligibility requirements are not met
  • the required consultation has not been completed and documented in the clinical record
  • the physiotherapist determines that rental is not appropriate
  • equipment is unavailable
  • the patient has previously failed to comply with rental terms

3. Rental period, pickup, and return

The rental period begins on the date the equipment is collected from the Clinic and ends six (6) weeks later.You are responsible for collecting and returning the equipment in person to Acumamas Wellness at 301 W 2nd Ave, Vancouver, BC, during clinic operating hours as posted by the Clinic or otherwise communicated to you. The Clinic does not offer delivery or home pickup. If you would like to request an extension, you must do so in writing at least five (5) days before the scheduled return date. Extensions are not guaranteed. The equipment may only be used by the patient named in the rental record. It may not be lent, transferred, assigned, or shared with any other person.

4. Fees, deposit, and late or non-returned equipment

The rental fee of $80.00 CAD is non-refundable once the equipment has been collected. The $100.00 CAD security deposit is refundable after the equipment has been returned, inspected by the Clinic, and found to be complete and in acceptable condition, excluding ordinary wear and tear. Deposit refunds, where applicable, will be processed within 7 business days after inspection. If the equipment is not returned by the return date and no written extension has been approved, the deposit will be forfeited. If the equipment is returned with missing parts, damage, excessive soiling, biohazard contamination, or in a condition requiring repair, replacement, or special cleaning beyond ordinary wear and tear, Acumamas Wellness may deduct the related costs from the deposit. If the amount of loss or damage exceeds the deposit, you agree to pay the balance owing upon request. Rental fees and deposits are the patient’s responsibility and are not guaranteed to be reimbursed by extended health insurance or any other third party.

5. Cancellations and early return

If you cancel before collecting the equipment, any deposit paid will be refunded in full. If you return the equipment before the end of the six-week rental period, no refund of the rental feel will issued except the return of the refundable deposit. If you go into labour or are otherwise temporarily unable to return the equipment by the scheduled return date, you must contact the Clinic as soon as reasonably possible to make arrangements.

6. Use of the equipment

You agree to use the TENS unit only as instructed by your Acumamas physiotherapist and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. You must not use the device in any manner that is inconsistent with the instruction provided to you. You confirm that you have received instruction on the use of the equipment and understand that:

  • the device is intended only for your personal use
  • it must not be used by any other person
  • it should not be modified, dismantled, repaired, or tampered with
  • it should not be used while driving, sleeping, bathing, or showering
  • it must be kept away from children
  • you should stop using it and seek guidance if you experience any unexpected symptoms, skin irritation, or concerns about use

The level of pain relief obtained from TENS varies from person to person. Use of the device does not guarantee any particular outcome or level of pain relief during labour.

7. Care of equipment

You are responsible for keeping the equipment clean, dry, and safely stored in the carry bag when not in use. The outer casing may be wiped with a clean damp cloth, but the unit must not be submerged in water or exposed to excessive moisture. The device uses 2 AAA batteries, which are not included unless otherwise stated. You are responsible for replacing batteries during the rental period if needed. Electrode pads supplied with the rental are single-user consumable items intended for your use during the rental period and do not need to be returned unless requested by the Clinic as part of an inspection. You must promptly notify the Clinic if the equipment is lost, damaged, appears defective, or is not functioning properly.

8. Responsibility and limitation of liability

You are responsible for the equipment from the time it is released to you until it is returned to and accepted by the Clinic.

Acumamas Wellness is not responsible for loss, damage, injury, or adverse effects arising from:

  • use of the equipment in a manner contrary to the instructions provided by your physiotherapist
  • use that is inconsistent with the manufacturer’s instructions
  • use by a person other than the approved patient
  • unauthorized modification, repair, or misuse of the equipment
  • loss, theft, or damage occurring while the equipment is in your possession or control

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to replace or limit any clinical informed consent process required as part of your physiotherapy care. Clinical treatment decisions, recommendations, and consent are addressed separately in the course of care.

9. Electronic agreement

By typing your full name and submitting the rental form or agreement electronically, you confirm that the information you have provided is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you agree to these Terms & Conditions. You agree that your electronic submission, including your typed name, timestamp, and related submission details, may be used as evidence of your agreement to these Terms & Conditions. You also consent to receiving these Terms & Conditions and related rental communications electronically. A copy of these Terms & Conditions can be made available to you electronically.

10. Governing law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada. Any dispute relating to this rental program shall be addressed in Vancouver, British Columbia.
